The a rm y also announced it w as barring jo u rna lists from the te rrito ries for the firs t tim e in the four m onths of un rest tha t have left 119 P alestin ian s and one Israe li so ldier dead. U nder the m easu re , the 650,000 A rabs in G aza will be banned from leaving the ir hom es, while the 850,000 P a le s ­ tinians on the W est Bank will be confined to th e ir villages and towns, the a rm y said. The th ree day closure began a t 10 p.m . M onday in the G aza Strip and a t 1 a .m . T uesday in the W est Bank, an a rm y s ta te ­ m ent said. The restric tions also b a r Palestin ians from crossing the two bridges over the Jo rd an R iver, the a rm y said . Incom ing traffic from Jo rd an will be p e r­ m itted , however. The orders also forbid P a lestin ians living in the te rrito rie s from en tering Israe l, affecting about 110,000 A rab w orkers. The 65,000 Jew ish se ttle rs who live in the occupied te r ­ rito ries will be p erm itted to move freely.
